Assignor Information

All assignors must be registered with the N.I.S.L.

All assignors must have conducted and passed the USSF assignors coarse.

Assignors are assigned by the N.I.S.L. to a club, community or specific assigned event such as the Seeding Tournament, etc.

An assignor’s responsibility is to provide qualified officials to all N.I.S.L. games.

Assignors could be for center referee only with club assignors providing the assistant referee or assignors could have the responsibility to provide both.

Assignors must receive an eighty-four cancellation notice from the home team to avoid fines.

Assignors must only assign referees to a level of game that the official is capable of officiating.

N.I.S.L. Advice To Assignors

The center official must be three years older than the age of the youth participating in the match.

The assistant referee must not be younger than the age of the youth participating in the match.

Assignors

The N.I.S.L. requires one referee per game and two assistants (linesperson) and will be fully enforced. Refereeing by any other system is not allowed.

Minimum age of officials in the N.I.S.L. is 12 years of age.

All referees under the age of 16 are considered minors and require work permits.

To obtain a work permit, officials require a statement of intention from the N.I.S.L.

The Superintendent of Schools issues employment certificates.

Parental approval of the officiating minor’s employment is required as part of the work permit application process.

Parent or guardian of the officiating minor must be present while the minor is officiating.

The officiating minor is limited to three hours of work per day on school days and four hours of work on non-school days.

The minor may not officiate more than ten hours per week and may not work past 9 P.M.

The officiating minor must be at least three years older than the youth participating in the match or someone at least 16 years of age must be officiating at the same event.

Advice to referees from assignors

Referee training and certifying is an ongoing process. There is always a lag getting the information to the assignors. New referees and those referees who feel they are not getting the desired number of assignments should contact the assignors in the areas they want to work and so inform them.

Referee should ask clubs and other entities operating in the area where they wish to work for the name and phone number of the local assignor. The N.I.S.L., in some divisions, require the club to furnish their own assistant referees so contact the club in your area.

Tell the assignor the level of games you feel capable of officiating. Be sure they know whether you are willing to serve as the center referee or an assistant referee (linesperson) or both. Make yourself available when needed. Do not turn down games.
